Teaching in the 21st century

"Who dares to teach must never cease to learn."

Learning is, indeed, ongoing. As teachers we are trained and motivated to educate our children, but what the students don't realize is that we are learning alongside them. We might learn something new in our content area, about current teaching strategies, or even a new way to handle conflict in the classroom, but whatever it may be the point is we learn something new every day. We absorb new experiences and knowledge in order to remain current. Being a teacher in the 21st century requires adaptability and a strong commitment to lifelong learning.

  1. Julie,

Indeed, we must empower ourselves and ultimately our students to become lifelong learners. After all, "Learning is ongoing!"

    Best regards,

  2. Adaptability and strong commitment are real life skills that teachers need to have in the 21st century. As the young usher in a new age of technology, teachers must stay on point with the skills the students come to the class with and connect prior knowledge to curriculum requirements.

  3. Exactly! This is a struggle I see with some teachers I work with, they are not open to the idea of using technology in their classrooms and I respect their decision although they should at least explore the concept that students may be more motivated or interested in learning when they can relate to the resources or tools used in their learning styles.
